Edetaria
E D E T À R I A , T E R R A A L T A : located in the extreme south of Spain's Catalonia, where vineyards lie at around 400m of altitude with excellent soils incorporating limestone and good drainage. At around 50km from Priorat this region has the potential to produce “garnatxa”-based wines of equal quality. A new wave of winemaking has emerged from the local jug-wine trade, with modern, cleanly made wines that combine freshness and ripeness. Edetaria is named after the Via Edetana, the old Roman trade route that passed through the estate. The vineyards have a diverse range of soils from terraces composed of limestone and clay to old river beds where cobbles dominate. All the wines come from Edetaria’s own vineyards of which there are around 50ha with vines mostly over 50 years old. A cellar was built in 2003. These are gorgeous wines with more finesse and a lighter style than you might expect, the reds medium-bodied and pale cherry-coloured, the whites with minerality and freshness.
