This white wine from Valduero is really something special. The bright, deep gold colour is an early indication. Concentrated aromas of beeswax and honey, citrus, orange peel and lanolin explode from the glass, leading on to a slightly viscous palate which is full-bodied, rich, and dense with lovely texture and vibrant acidity. Bone dry, there is nevertheless a luxuriant impression of richness. Savoury, herbal notes combine with a plush background of vanilla in a style that has moved beyond primary fruit to a fascinatingly developed, secondary stage which still retains a great deal of freshness and youth. A highly unusual and individual wine that is hedonistic and opulent whilst being a little reminiscent of the great white Riojas, this is a unique and remarkable wine in a class of its own, showcasing the evident tremendous ageing potential of Albillo Mayor.
