The Wine Treasury's Christmas box 2024 (6 btls)

We have selected a few of our favourite wines to make up a Christmas case that we are sure will give you the perfect excuse to pull the cork on some special wines during the festive period:

1 bottle N.V. Champagne Edouard Brun Blanc de Blancs 1er Cru
Brun is  a little known secret, founded in the late 1800s, it was one of the original Grandes Marques. They have a paltry 8 hectares of vines (with long-term contracts on a further 12), all based around the Grand Cru village of Ay (Bollinger is a neighbour). With only 200,000 bottles a year produced, we are very privileged to get some. The 100% Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs is aged for 24 months in bottle and has a beautiful floral nose with a touch of brioche. The palate has lovely weight and concentration with perfect acidity carrying it through to a long, full-flavoured finish.

2 bottles 2023 Central Coast Viognier Alban Vineyards
John Alban was the first man to introduce Viognier to California in the late 1980s and the estate remains the reference point for Rhone varietals in the USA. This Viognier is fermented and aged in stainless steel and bottled early to guarantee freshness, none of the gloopy fruit often associated with New World Viognier here, this is packed with floral notes and has all the stone fruit flavours that Viognier shows best. Full bodied in style but with balancing acidity, packed with fruit, it going to be a sure-fire winner with roast turkey.

2 bottles 2018 Edition Z De Toren, Stellenbosch
This New World Winery of the year winner was established in 1994 with a mission to produce the best Bordeaux blends in South Africa. Meticulous in their approach, they only harvest during the first two hours of daylight, having removed and discarded 40% of the grapes on the vines, the berries then go through 23 different checks before they are selected! Ed. Z is a blend of Merlot, Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot and is aged mainly in French oak barrels that are a third new. It is perfumed with aromas of cherry and blackcurrants which follow through on to the palate, which is lifted by fresh acidity, the finish is long and mineral. It is a really delicious glass of wine.

1 x 50cl 2013 Muscat du Cap Corse Impassitu Domaine Orenga de Gaffory
Based in the Patrimonio appellation in the north of Corsica, the Domaine was founded in 1966 and consists of 56 hectares of vines. Production is entirely certified organic and mainly with indigenous Corsican varieties. Whilst the Muscat is not indigenous it is a grape varietal that thrives on many Mediterranean islands, and this is one of the very best around. The grapes are harvested very late and are botrytis affected, they spend 48 hours macerating on skins, are fortified after fermentation and aged in stainless steel to maintain all the natural flavours. Golden in colour, with honeyed notes of candied fruit, citrus and savoury, with lovely viscosity and it is very creamy and lush. The finish is lifted, refined and long, with superb acidity to balance the sweetness.
