Pierre-Henri Morel Côtes du Rhône Villages "Signargues" 2014
Mostly Grenache with a little Syrah grown on clay and limestone soils in a terraced vineyard of pebbles and limestone rocks. Vinification in neutral vessels for a ripe, fruit-dominated style, a long period of post-fermentation maceration for richness and structure and bottling after one year. Deep garnet red, full and rich strawberry aromas with ripe, concentrated black fruit, lush palate with licorice, fine-grained tannins and a long, spicy finish. This has a richness and intensity well beyond what you would expect of a Côtes du Rhône to the extent that it rivals many a Châteauneuf du Pape.
