Of the 2020 vintage, Hans says: “It was kind of a difficult year, the extreme heat peaks, that kind of story that you hear nowadays quite often, but we managed to pick just before a major peak and we basically had to decide whether we would go for a mature version or a fresher version with more tension: we decided to go for the fresher one, as we don’t really like over-ripe wines.

Most of the wines in 2020 in Argentina are either green because they were picked too early, or overripe. It was a very, very difficult thing to encounter the right spot, the sweet spot. We fermented with 25% full bunch in order to keep that freshness. It’s an atypical year: very difficult, but we’re happy with the results.”

Perfumed with aromas of sour cherry, blue fruit, even wild strawberry, a hint of tomato leaf, graphite, a subtle hint of vanilla. On the palate, an initial burst of lithe, filigreed acidity on the palate, then floral, violet notes, a touch of pencil lead, and then the red and black fruit comes through. It turns more and more savoury on the lengthy finish, moderately full-bodied with sandy textured tannins and a beautiful impression of freshness and elegance. Super- approachable now with its freshness and supple tannic structure, it will nevertheless continue to open out over the next few years and improve further for as long as anyone is likely to keep it.
