Two Vintners Some Days are Diamonds Syrah 2015

From the Discovery Vineyard, on the southern edge of the Horse Heaven Hill AVA which overlooks the Columbia River and Oregon to the south. Planted in 2005 by Kay & Milo May with Paul Champoux consulting, this cool site produces grapes with a great balance of acidity and ripeness. The grapes were fermented with native yeast and 50% whole cluster fruit and punched down three times daily. Aged for 18 months in 88% neutral French oak and 12% in a new French oak puncheon. Dark purple colour, aromas of indian ink, violets and blackberries, on the palate taut, very savoury and mineral, intense and concentrated in a style that is almost ascetic with fine-grained tannins and a bone dry, enduringly long, fine finish. Beautifully balanced and highly elegant.
