Tara Syrah 2014
A blend of 58% Syrah and 42% Merlot, from ungrafted vines. Each variety was fermented separately in open 500-kilo tanks with native yeasts, using the Pinot Noir method with two or three daily pump overs for a week. The wine was then transferred straight into fifth use French barrels for malolactic fermentation. The wine was neither clarified nor filtered. Only 758 bottles were produced and bottled by hand. An interesting blend: while the Syrah lends freshness, herbs, spices and firm tannins, the Merlot adds fruit, soft tannins and a velvety body. It has an intense, youthful, almost blue colour. Aromas are a mix of black fruits, herbs and graphite, medium bodied with grainy tannins and a long finish combining richness with elegance. 13% alc.
