Two Vintners Some Days are Stones Syrah 2015
From the Stoney Vine Vineyard which was planted in 2007 and lies on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley, just outside of Milton Freewater in the now famous “Rocks” region of Walla Walla. The 17 acre vineyard sits atop an alluvial fan comprised of rounded basalt river cobble formed by the ancient bed of the Walla Walla River. The grapes were fermented 70% whole cluster using native yeasts. Fermentation took place in open top one ton bins and were punched down daily over 10 days. It was then aged for 18 months in 88% neutral French oak and 12% in a new French oak puncheon. Smoky and earthy aromatics, not as stony as the Diamonds above, this has a lusher and more fruit-driven style with apricot and black cherry, some black pepper and meatiness, greater richness and silky tannins. Viscous concentration with a polished, very long finish.
