Limerick Lane
The 53-acre estate lies where four appellations come together just inside the northeast corner of Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley. In an appellation that is renowned for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Limerick Lane grow and vinify supreme Zinfandel and Rhône Varietals, making wines that aren’t consistent with their appellation. They are located at the end of a dead-end road on the wrong side of the valley. Zinfandel and Syrah may be viewed as second-class citizens when compared to Cabernet, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. Yet somehow, Limerick Lane consistently receive higher accolades than many of their more recherché neighbours. Stylistically, the wines produced here by winemaker, Chris Pittenger are singular. They are rich, powerful, full-bodied wines that are simultaneously strikingly fresh, bright, and nimble.
The majority of the fruit is de-stemmed and fermented in 4 ton open top fermenters. Depending on the health of the fermentation, musts are either inoculated or allowed to ferment spontanesouly. Maturation is predominantly in neutral French oak and for between 12 and 16 months. The resulting wines are full-bodied and rich with a core of beautiful fresh fruit and striking acidity and structure.
