SALES MANAGER ARTHUR'S TOP TEN FESTIVE WINES
We just caught Arthur before running out the door to pour and talk wine across town, so short and sweet, here’s his list:
Christmas Eve, in preparation for the big day…
Edouard Brun Rosé NV to get in the festive spirit!
Christmas morning, to get things going!
I’ll stick with the bubbles and how the Edouard Brun 1er Cru NV.
The main event – the Christmas feast…
Starters: Flowers Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, a lovely medium bodied white with crisp bright acidity and minerality to work well with Christmas starters like smoked salmon.
Main course: For a white, the Consolation Rock ‘n’ Rolle Vermentino which is an aromatic, textured rich white that can stand up well to food. The red, a treat with will be the Alario Barolo Riva Rocca. It’s a full flavoured wine with lots of plum and strawberries going on be well balanced, with silky, elegant tanins.
Desert: Orenga de Gaffory Muscat has to be the one!
Later, by the fire or collapsed in front of the TV….
Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon will go nicely.
Boxing Day with the leftovers or after a bracing walk…
Brewer Clifton Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir will work well with its pomegranate, blood orange aromos and spicy, dried fig and white truffle notes.
When the inevitable unexpected guests drop in, what do you open?
More Champagne, obvs! Maybe the Edouard Brun 1er Cru again. Why not?!
New Year’s Eve, to end the season in style… depending on their taste buds, the Canvasback Cabernet for red and the Schug Carneros Chardonnay for white.
