Finca de Luzon

A Joven style young red wine, a blend of Syrah and Monastrell, the Monastrell grape being native to Jumilla in Southeast Spain (and known in other winemaking regions such as Bandol in France as Mourvèdre). The grapes used in the production of this wine are grown in Luzon’s own vineyards. The Monastrell is from the Cerrillares vineyard at 600m above sea level and the Syrah at the Castillo de Luzón vineyard at 700m above sea level. Both of these vineyards have a maximum yield of 4000 kg of grape per hectare. The harvest took place during the middle of September 2009 for the Syrah and the first week of October for the Monastrell. The grapes were handpicked. Maceration lasted 20 days with the temperature being maintained below 24ºC for the Syrah and 12 days. Maceration at 28ºC or less for the Monastrell. In both cases the wine was macerated in contact with the skins before being deposited in stainless steel tanks where the malolactic fermentation took place.
