Merlot
For many years, the vineyards in the warm heart of San Luis Obispo County have proven to be a quality source of fruit for our Hawk Crest Merlot, offering an abundance of plum and berry notes. In recent years, Hawk Crest winemaker Mark Smith has balanced this richly flavored fruit from the central part of Paso Robles with grapes from the Red Hills district of Lake County, which lies just north of the Napa Valley and is increasingly recognized as an outstanding new growing region. The Red Hills fruit contributes texture and structure to the blend, balancing the rich Paso Robles fruit and creating a wine that is full of character. The wine was aged for seven months in French oak barrels, providing complexity and hints of vanilla to support the wine’s abundant fruit flavours. Notes
An easily inviting wine with spicy notes of cardamom, clove and cinnamon that accent lush aromas of purple plums and red berries. Plum and vanilla flavors coat the mouth and dance along the palate through a lingering finish. Enjoy this well structured and medium-bodied Merlot with a hearty dish of Osso Buco, roasted chicken and root vegetables, or ratatouille.
