Don Antonio
The Nero's big brother, this is as serious and fine a wine as you will find anywhere in Sicily. It is from 40 year old vines and spends 12 months in new oak barrels which are then passed down for use in the junior wine. It benefits from a year or two in bottle and is always characterised by the silkiness of its tannins and its intense sweet cherry, cocoa and licorice fruit character with a touch of minerality. Length in the mouth is as long as you would expect from a wine of this quality. This is truly wonderful stuff and is up there with the best Nero D'Avola in the world. Notes

"Very attractive bright fruit, with licorice and blueberry. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins and a clean finish. This is really polished and pretty. Long and delicious, with a silky texture. Why wait? Drink now. 3,330 cases made." (The Wine Spectator, 91 points)
