Pleiades is very much Sean's “chef’s special”. It doesn’t bear a vintage (Roman numerals depict the identity of the particular version) nor does he put the same grape varieties in it every year. XVI is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Barbera, Pinot Noir, etc ..etc .. that is meant to be drunk right now, which accounts for its wonderful accessibility and appeal. It’s warm, ripe and deliciously luscious with soft velvety tannins.
Notes
The “everything but the kitchen sink” blend of multiple grapes (Syrah, Sangiovese, Mourvedre, Barbera, Carignan, Pinot Noir and probably a white grape or two), the non-vintage Pleiades XIV, is a gorgeous bistro-styled red offering notes of Mediterranean herbs and sea breezes intermixed with sweet berries, earth, and spice. Elegant, broad, and soft, it is a terrific example of what a fine winemaker with a vision can create. Drink this complex, tasty effort over the next several years.
