| Estate Roussanne |
|
Says John Alban: "I probably have the hardest time writing about Roussanne compared to all the other grapes we grow. Perhaps it is that I fear I’ll sound pleading, or worse- whimpering. Roussanne can be a thankless pursuit. Fortunately I get sufficient feedback from the cadre of hard-core fanatics to bolster my spirits each year and re-double my efforts with this wonderfully, wildly, richly strange variety. There are legions of whites that one can make for all kinds of commercial reasons, even it they suck, but Roussanne is for people you love."
Harvested October 18-30, indigenous fermentation in French barrels, 66% new, bottled unfiltered and unfined in May 2008; 400 cases produced.
Notes
"Our 2005 Roussanne is a complete and wonderful surprise. Ater 16 months of sitting in a coma- inactive and still sweet, the barrels came back to life and completed their fermentations. All the usual honey, honey comb, waxy lanolin notes with more floral and fresh fruits than previous vintages. This wine will forever remind me that with enough time, anything is possible." John Alban
