 | Montarels
| The Côtes de Thongue is approximately 30 miles south-west of Montpellier. Les Vignerons d’Alignan du Vent produce these wines in an a region that benefits from the mediterranean climate and from the mediating effects of the north wind, while the soils are varied and enable different varietals to be matched to the soils that best suit them. The wines are varietally labelled: a huge benefit to anglo-saxon wine-drinkers. The style of all the wines is uncomplicatedly attractive; these wines are destined for immediate consumption. The Sauvignon is fresh and zingy, combining floral notes with exotic fruit. The Chardonnay rather fuller (it is aged on its lees for 12 months) with aromas of nuts and dried fruits and flavours of pear. The Viognier is a stunner with its wonderful spicy fruit and zestiness, rather as a baby Condrieu might be... The rosé Cinsault is crisp and refreshing with light red summer fruit. Unoaked, the Merlot is deep coloured with aromas of black cherry, blackberry and sweet spices, mouthfilling and ample. The Syrah receives 12 months in oak, it is rich and soft, packed with cassis and scented with violets. |
