 | Plan B
|
The motto of the small collective that is Plan B is: “everyone needs a plan B”. On the face of it, this is fair enough, but this Plan B is rather more than some kind of least bad option. It is in fact a joint venture between three men from Arlewood (Terry Chellapah, Garry Gosatti, and Martin Miles) and close associate, vineyard owner and former winemaker at Rosabrook, Bill Crappsley.
A sense of fun and a love of wine are essential elements of this venture but the real beauty of it is that it enables them to make excellent wine at competitive prices from single estate fruit that just didn’t fit into the mix either at Arlewood or with Bill’s wines. The single vineyard element is important to the concept as a reaction against the plethora of non-wines from nowhere in particular on the market. These are single vineyard expressions of Margaret River fruit with the intention that the wines be representative of site and variety.
Add to the mix the fact that Bill, something of a legend in his own right, is winemaker for these wines and the whole formula becomes quite compelling: he brings to the mix his trademark savoury, restrained and elegant style in a package that is modern and down to earth, for drinking with or without food. |
