| One of the most famous families of Chassagne, the Pillot family has been making wine for generations. Paul Pillot predictably concentrates on producing white wines but the reds are a real find, and all his wines are of excellent quality, elegance and length. They are aged in 25% new barrels, whites for twelve months and reds for twelve to eighteen months. Introducing the range are the Bourgogne Chardonnay and Bourgogne Rouge, both absolute bargains. The St Aubin is elegantly creamy both from fruit and oak, stunning in its zesty exuberance. The white Chassagnes are forward, and with great capacity to age well. Les Mazures is extremely approachable in its youth with excellently measured oak and a fine acidic structure, while Clos St Jean is truly racy, with delicate acidity and great richness of fruit, almost New World in style. Les Caillerets is much more concentrated, displaying a more floral edge with big, rich, ripe fruit and balanced with an underlying acidity. |
