Jean-Michel Drouin and his wife Béatrice produce Mâconnais wines that wouldn’t disgrace the Côte de Beaune. The unoaked Mâcon Chaintré is refreshing and citrussy with just the right degree of ripeness and acidity, while the Mâcon Solutré’s oak gives it a touch more structure.  The Vieilles Vignes is an assemblage from five of their own vineyards in Pouilly and Fuissé with vines between 35 and 55 years old (and 65% new Tronçais oak), readily drinkable when young with attractive grapefruit and mineral notes.  Champs Roux is a single vineyard facing south west on chalky soils with 75 to 85 year old vines. 100% oaked for 12 months it achieves an extra level of complexity over the lighter Vieilles Vignes and is weightily structured with a vibrant acidity. The wine known simply as Pouilly is a new addition to the Gerbeaux range and marks the pinnacle of the estate’s production. From one of the region’ s most coveted vineyards (La Vigne Derrière la Maison) with an ideal aspect it has great concentration and finesse: it receives 18 months in oak and certainly benefits from some time in the bottle. The unoaked St Véran shows riper fruit than the Pouillys, with a more obvious citrussy grapefruit quality and less minerality.
