Famiglia Statella

Calogero Statella, Sicilian born and bred, has been winemaker at Tenuta delle Terre Nere since 2009, but this is his very own project. His wines are sourced mainly from two vineyards (just 1.3ha) that he and his wife, Rita, were finally able to buy for themselves in the contradas of Pettinociarelle (Castiglione di Sicilia) and Pignatuni (Randazzo), on their very own patch of volcano. They are now producing just ten thousand bottles a year of mainly Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, all produced organically. The wines have received rave reviews and have an elegance, charm and intensity that is strikingly beautiful.
